About Queen Johnson

I grew up in NYCHA Brooklyn in the 90s with my siblings and working class mom. Due to some of the crime and danger, we decided to move to a NYCHA development in Queens when I was in middle school. It felt a little safer but in Queens there were people with mental health issues, gangs, and teen pregnancy  around us. So, when I say Defund the Police, I am very aware of those nuances around being safe from the dangers in our communities and the dangers in uniform.
I didn’t want to become a statistic of violence or teen pregnancy, and did my best to work to get my Associates in Criminal Justice at Berkley College, and my Bachelor’s in Economic Analysis at CUNY Brooklyn College. Despite all of the crime and harm in my communities, I was determined to not become a statistic. For five years I dedicated my life to public service as a Medicaid Eligibility Specialist, and as a long time community organizer, and human rights activist.I have lived the front line struggles and has turned them into policy to protect all everyday Americans.
